Abstract

Serbian Dementia Registry is a population-based epidemiological study that registers the cases of dementia diagnosed by the reference Center for cognitive and memories disorders at Neurology Clinic, Clinical Center of Serbia. The Aim of this study was to report on the frequency of diagnosis and their sociodemographic characteristics. The sample consisted of patients registered between 2008 and 2015 who underwent specialized diagnostic procedures in the Center for memories and cognitive disorders. A total of 2596 cases were registered, of which (62.8%) were women. The mean age was 68.5 ±11.03 (range 18- 87 years) and the average education level was 12.0±3.2. Of this total number, at the moment of the first visit 47.2% were fulfill criteria for MCI, 33.9% were dementia due Alzheimer's disease, 9.3% were dementias secondary to a vascular pathology, 3.1 % were frontotemporal and 0,7% were dementias with Lewy bodies and 5.1 % were non-specific dementias. The mean score in the Mini Mental test it was 22.1 ± 6.9 points. Epidemiological data collected through the activity of the Center during the period 2008–2015 have enabled an insight into the demographic characteristics of patients from this region of the Republic of Serbia, as well as planning activities the health care system.
