Perspectives on AI in Anaesthesiology

Abstract

The long-standing trends in anesthesiology towards the adoption of sophisticated technologies and the development of evidence-based patient safety guidelines have led to the generation of large amounts of data. The specialty is ideally positioned for the adoption of AI technologies that can analyse large amounts of data to generate clinically relevant predictions. Implementing precise and comprehensive AI models can aid in pre-operative patient risk stratification, intra-operative maintenance of anaesthesia, and prevention of post-operative complications. In such a way, AI can augment the physician to enhance patient safety, prevent complications, and, in the long run, improve patient health outcomes.
