Abstract
The public release of version 3.5 of the ChatGPT conversational algorithm in November 2022 marked a turning point in the ongoing process of technological change. Although the technology itself is not novel, its ability to generate human-like responses has led to two prevailing attitudes in the public debate about artificial intelligence (AI). On the one hand, optimistic enthusiasm about its advances and, on the other, a pessimistic dystopian view that fears AI control of humanity. However, the article questions these dematerialized and abstract perspectives and proposes a "pragmatist" approach. This approach seeks to use technology thoughtfully, considering its impact and future development to make informed decisions from the outset. It is argued that the pragmatist conception is essential to properly guide the use of technologies such as ChatGPT and ensure a beneficial future for society. The article focuses on the use of ChatGPT in healthcare. [ChatGPT has been used to summarize the original text of the abstract]
