Abstract
This paper argues that identifying the personality type of an author based on textual data such as essays, online conversations, blogs, and tweets can reach state-of-the-art performance with Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT without any special training in the task. Further, these LLMs can provide natural language explanations as to why a particular personality type was chosen, which distinguishes this technique from most machine learning classification algorithms. This paper presents an experiment wherein ChatGPT is used to identify the Myers Briggs Personality Type (MBTI) based on a collection of tweets using the Kaggle MBTI Personality Type Dataset. Precision, recall, and accuracy results will be presented for each personality type dichotomy and compared to prior work.
