Abstract
The emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in assisted psychology has generated growing interest due to its potential to transform clinical practice and the therapist-patient relationship. This study aimed to evaluate AI tools available or adaptable to the Ecuadorian context, analysing their integration into local clinical practice, scientific backing, and associated ethical implications. An observational design was adopted, involving a global market analysis to identify relevant tools, followed by a detailed evaluation of 12 selected products based on technological maturity, scientific foundation, and clinical applicability. Information was obtained exclusively from official public sources. The results demonstrate that AI fulfils administrative, clinical support, and emotional accompaniment roles, with chatbots based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and emotional recognition systems among the most prominent applications. However, adoption in Ecuador remains nascent, constrained by technological, cultural, and regulatory barriers. The study highlights the need to strengthen professional training, ensure data protection, and scientifically validate these tools to guarantee their efficacy and safety. This research provides a critical and well-founded perspective on the potential and challenges of AI in Ecuadorian assisted psychology, laying the groundwork for future research and technological development in the country.
