Abstract

Abstract Objective: This study aims to evaluate the knowledge, perception, and attitude of dentists about the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in dentistry. Subjects and Methods: This is an observational cross-sectional study, in which data will be gathered from a representative sample in Libya. Two hundred and eighty-six participants answered 25 questions. The questionnaire included demographic information about participants knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes toward the use of AI in dentistry. Results: The majority of the participants was females (67.8%). General dental practitioners, specialists, postgraduate dentists, and interns made up 40.6%, 30.1%, 20.3, and 9.0% of the professions, respectively. There is a statistically significant difference in the level of awareness of AI among different age groups ( P = 0.030). As age increases, the awareness of AI also seems to increase, with the highest awareness among the age group 46–60 (95.5%) and >60 years (100%). The results also show that gender ( P = 0.011) and qualification ( P = 0.020) have statistically significant associations with awareness of AI. Our survey results show that AI knowledge (74.4%), perception (75.0%), and attitude (66.0%) are all average. Conclusion: Despite dentists having a good attitude regarding AI, its use and applications were very limited. Therefore, the need to raise awareness of this idea is urgent.
