Abstract

Introduction Artificial intelligence in scientific writing has emerged as a powerful tool, potentially enhancing productivity and reducing language barriers for nonnative English speakers.[1] However, concerns have been raised about the possible misuse of AI language models to generate fake or low-quality papers, necessitating careful oversight and ethical guidelines.[2] To address these concerns while leveraging AI’s benefits, researchers are encouraged to acknowledge AI use transparently and take ultimate responsibility for their publications’ content.[3,4] In the last few years, advanced tools have become indispensable for those scholars who are tasked with producing written academic material. Canvas introduces an interactive functionality that enhances real-time editing and dynamic text refinement, making it particularly beneficial for researchers engaged in academic writing. This Canvas-based method connects the artificial intelligence of ChatGPT-4 and the capability of editing on a platform similar to that of MS Word [Table 1] or Google Docs. What makes this tool great for health scientists to use is its interactive editing capability, which is when the text is refined and changed in real time on the same platform.[5]Table 1: Comparison between ChatGPT-4 canvas and Microsoft Word in the editing process*Key Features of ChatGPT-4 with Canvas Canvas serves as a multifunctional assistant platform for researchers: Interactive editing The ability to edit the generated content by highlighting the sections makes Canvas the path for researchers to perform targeted steps like rephrasing or shortening their work. This support provides flexibility to the users to modify their writings without losing their clarity and control over the whole structure. Customization of output The tool makes the complexity and size of the text adjustable through its sliders. This way, for instance, researchers can easily fit into the requirements of the specific journal or academic standards. Simple formatting options Canvas is so practical that the formatting tools are so simple that one would hardly need any help, even as a complete novice. To start with, you can use it to add simple elements like headings and lists, which go a long way in making your papers clearer and more organized. Keyword integration Researchers can recommend the inclusion and natural use of certain keywords in the text for a better chance of online publication visibility.[5] Role of Canvas in the Health Research Writing Canvas with ChatGPT-4 can fully assist researchers in the whole study process in three main phases: prewriting, writing, and postwriting. Each phase contains some ethical items which need to be paid attention to, especially the guidelines presented by the most important academic publishers which require a principle of responsibility for the preservation of the scientific integrity of the study against anyone’s interference. Prewriting phase: Literature review and initial organization In the prewriting stage, results from the literature review usually are numerous and put in order, which is likely to be labor intensive and difficult to conduct. Canvas is the part that heavily brings in such assistance. Efficient summarization of literature In the early stages of the literature review process, researchers can quickly create short summaries or thematic analyses by uploading documents directly onto Canvas. This facility is explicitly useful in health research for it provides prompt access to pertinent information, which can influence research aims and design. Privacy and ethical considerations When utilizing AI tools such as ChatGPT-4 with Canvas in research writing, ethical considerations must be carefully addressed. Researchers must ensure all data input remains anonymized, following established guidelines like the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors[6] to safeguard confidentiality. AI-generated content requires human oversight to mitigate biases, ensuring accuracy and integrity. In addition, while AI can assist in refining text, the ultimate responsibility lies with researchers, who must transparently acknowledge its role without compromising authorship standards. Leading journals emphasize that AI should not replace critical thinking in scientific writing but serve as a supportive tool, reinforcing ethical responsibility in maintaining research credibility. Example As an illustration, a researcher studying new ways of managing laryngopharyngeal reflux might use Canvas to quickly summarize earlier studies, thus leading to the synthesis of previous work more efficiently and accurately. Writing phase: Structuring and enhancing manuscript content It is in this part of the work where the really powerful aspect of ChatGPT-4 coupled with Canvas comes through, as it allows writing to be organized and presented clearly while leaving the door open for comprehensive editing and improvements. Interactive drafting features Using the interactive drafting feature of Canvas, users can highlight text parts to improve them specifically. As a result, complex expressions can be refined into clearer language, while preserving their scientific depth, making the text easier for readers to grasp. Customizable readability The researchers can modify the level of detail so as to make the text suitable for its intended audience, be it specialized journals or a broader readership. For instance, the general audience can be taught some complicated processes by liver studies presented to them simply, thus enabling them to grasp such scientific findings. Responsibility of humans in authorship The ethical guidelines imply the authors must take complete responsibility for their work. The leading publishers state that any AI tool used in the writing process must be mentioned in a methodology or acknowledgments section and its precise contribution must be specified. AI can never claim authorship. Refining and editing the language Canvas provides language improvement tools such as enhancing grammar, meaning, and coherence through original wording. For instance, in a results section, Canvas can aid in interpreting complicated results while keeping the information unchanged but simpler for readers to grasp. Inaccuracies’ mitigation risks Just like any AI tools, fact-checking is a necessity to establish the truth of data, especially regarding health research where truthfulness is the key. Researchers are recommended to check everything that their AI-produced content can provide to avert mistakes. Example a researcher drafting a methodology section for a clinical trial might use Canvas to make language adjustments, organize the writing well, and present complicated aspects concisely while still adhering to scientific standards. Postwriting phase: Final review and minor language edits Being the last step, ensuring the work raises the highest standards for publication and conducting additional ethical checks to ensure content confidentiality and originality are followed. This phase has two parts. Maintaining confidentiality in peer review Generative tools are generally discouraged in peer review processes to avoid compromising the privacy of unpublished work. Journals such as Science strongly discourage using AI tools for reviewing manuscripts to prevent unintended breaches of confidentiality. Minor edits and language polishing Canvas is a good tool for improving the text at this stage through minor language changes and flow adjustments. However, the main scientific evaluation should remain from human control to follow the rules of the editorial boards. Example a researcher may use Canvas to “polish the discussion” part of the text by increasing its clarity and coherence and ensuring no new interpretation of the results is provided. Advantages and Limitations of ChatGPT-4 with Canvas Advantages Efficiency In a fast-paced world, where the margin for adjustment is so small, Canvas saves the paper writing and editing process, thus leading to the production of polished journals in tight timeliness. Adaptability By tweaking both text complexity and formatting tools, Canvas is the plethora of solutions that one could get to meet the criteria of journals. Limitations Unpredictable commenting tool The function that lets us have comments or suggested edits can be useless for some parts and take away the focus of the writing. Time-consuming fact-checking To yield precise results and maintain credibility, researchers must watch guests’ strings of AI variables; this can, in some cases, take up too much time. Future directions for Canvas in academic research Some future developments should prioritize the use of Canvas. Some of them include integration with school databases and providing the user with easier access to study materials, making them much more effective. Giving Canvas the ability to check facts successfully will also make it a power tool for academic writing.[5] Conclusion ChatGPT-4 with Canvas can be a handy and versatile resource for health researchers who want to create and finalize their manuscripts promptly. When utilized mindfully and with good knowledge of the limits, Canvas could efficiently improve the quality and time management of work, thus making sure that the outcome is faultless and ethical. Financial support and sponsorship Nil. Conflicts of interest There are no conflicts of interest.
