Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study is to examine how retail pharmacies in the United States can strategically leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to strengthen customer loyalty, encourage cross-department shopping, reduce customer costs, and foster improved partnerships with insurance companies. Methods: The study employs a comprehensive analysis of current industry AI implementations and case studies drawn from leading retail pharmacy organizations, including CVS Health, Walgreens, Amazon Pharmacy, and emerging technology platforms. Results: The results indicate that AI-driven personalization can increase customer engagement by up to 700%, reduce operational costs by between 15% and 90%, and improve medication adherence from 50% to 100% in controlled studies. The findings further show that integrated AI systems enhance patient outcomes while enabling omnichannel experiences, predictive analytics, and automated workflows that connect pharmacy services with broader retail operations. Conclusion: The study concludes that integrated AI systems play a critical role in transforming US retail pharmacy business models by enhancing patient outcomes and creating sustainable competitive advantages through improved efficiency, personalization, and operational integration. Recommendation: The study recommends the strategic adoption of integrated AI systems by retail pharmacies to enhance customer engagement, operational efficiency, and coordination between pharmacy services and broader retail operations.
