Abstract
The advent of AI tools like ChatGPT has transformed the writing processes of students, researchers, and educators. This paper analyzes the various opportunities and challenges posed by ChatGPT, with a specific emphasis on its functions in automated literature review, drafting, citation management, summarization, paraphrasing, and language enhancement. By streamlining the completion of rote tasks, ChatGPT allows users to devote time to intellectual and creative pursuits. In addition, its vast style and format adaptability offers invaluable support to researchers. Non-native speakers of English are often excluded from broader academic conversations and ChatGPT’s language assistance tools offered in real-time aids in including a wider demographic to the discourse. Above all, ChatGPT raises pressing concerns of ethics and academic integrity. This paper looks into the creative and critical thinking potential by the use of ChatGPT while underscoring the importance of ethical balance in the use of AI, institutional policies, and steps to prevent AI abuse. To mitigate its risks while maximizing the opportunity to transform academic writing, a balance between the advantages and ChatGPT’s purported downsides must first be reached. The balance will bolster the potential to promote efficiency, inclusivity, and quality.
