Abstract
The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) has brought a new way of conquering the extensive challenges that render the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) moot. Taking into account global hurdles of climate change, malmanagement of resources, social disparities, and threats to public health, AI presents practical and technologically enhanced means to increase the efficiency and reach of development. The main focus of this chapter is to discuss the role of AI systems in helping achieve the 17 SDGs by improving priority areas such as agriculture, healthcare, education, energy, urban development, and environment. The chapter explores particular applications of AI that are aligned with SDGs, e.g., to accelerate precision farming. Moreover, the chapter explores the ways in which AI can improve the quality of decision-making, optimal resource use, and access to vital services. Also, it outlines main ethical impediments such as data security and biased algorithms and their exclusionary consequence of digital poverty, which is to be addressed to make the implementation of AI appropriate. The report, basing on the evidence from modern research papers, official policy statements, and real-life examples, points to the desperate desire for organized regulation, innovative drone usage, and strategic AI development. The study ends with the recommendation for an ethical global policy on AI as technology for advancing collective well-being and sustainable, just, and resilient communities.
