Abstract
Generative AI tools are becoming increasingly integrated into human service programs necessitating adaptation in psychology, counseling, and social work to prepare students for work within evolving technological landscapes (Báez et al., 2025; Stone, 2025). Departments must consider how AI technologies align with the pedagogical and ethical frameworks of their fields to guide both students and faculty through responsible use of AI tools. This chapter explores approaches in developing AI literacy using practical strategies for introducing AI in ways that support rather than displace critical thinking and reflective practice. Recognized challenges include issues pertaining to authorship, bias, and academic integrity, along with the broader question of how the use of AI technology aligns with values such as empathy, relationality, and cultural competence (Dueck & Sundararajan, 2024; Soman et al., 2025).
