Abstract
The availability of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools has expanded their use and application—even in industries such as higher education. Generative AI has opened up an entirely new world of access to educational materials and personalization of learning. While generative AI tools have obvious benefits, they also raise several concerns for students in a higher education setup that go on from ethical concerns associated with academic integrity, data privacy, discrimination, and bias to over-reliance on the solutions proposed. This research article asserts that through the use of such a technology by the learner/researcher of tertiary education institutions, many vital issues must be addressed, as emphasized by the authors. It explores how we can educate our current generation, including responsible use of generative AI, implications for institutions, statutory research, and ethics. The proposal outlines standard methods for integrating student-facing AI with personalized learning principles and policy at the higher education level.
