Abstract
Artificial intelligence as an assistive technology or more reliance on it is increasing rapidly in higher education as a part of academic activities. The objective of this study was to examine the awareness of higher education learners about the usage of AI. Tools such as chatbots, plagiarism detection software’s, translation tools etc., have been increased as assistive technologies but they also raises concern regarding ethics, integrity and innovation. Descriptive statistics is used to examine the perception of learners regarding AI and institutional preparedness in teaching, learning and research. The result findings represents the responses under three major areas i.e. AI Usage and Learning Enhancement, Risks, Overdependence and Ethical Concerns and Institutional Guidelines & Preparedness. It is observed that AI is most commonly used by the learners which arises a concern about maintaining academic integrity, ethical awareness, overdependence and privacy. It is also observed that there is a lack of awareness among higher education learners about their own institutional as well as guidelines provided by the government.
