The application of large language models in developing professional competence of law students

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to identify the possibilities and limitations of using large language models (LLM) in the formation of professional competence of law students. The authors have examined the practical aspects of using such AI tools as ChatGPT, YandexGPT, GigaChat, Perplexity AI, DeepSeek, GenieAI, LegalAI, DocZilla Pro to solve typical legal tasks: analyzing legal documents; generating contract templates; creating hypothetical cases; adapting complex legal concepts, as well as working with international legal acts. Based on the matrix of AI tools for legal activities proposed in the scientific literature, four key professional tasks that can be solved using LLM in the educational process have been identified and analyzed in detail. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the systematic examination of the pedagogical potential of LLM in relation to legal education, as well as in demonstrating specific examples of using these technologies to develop the practical skills of future lawyers. The study has revealed that LLM is an effective auxiliary tool that can intensify the educational process, diversify teaching methods, and bring them closer to real professional conditions.
