Abstract
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to enhance the efficiency, equity, and accessibility of healthcare services. It is recognized as one of the key technologies to improve healthcare quality in the 21st century. In Taiwan, the rapid aging population, shortage of medical personnel, and concentration of healthcare resources further underscore the urgent need for AI to strengthen the resilience and adaptability of the overall healthcare system. This study explores the current applications and emerging trends of AI in Taiwan's healthcare and health industry. Through a systematic literature review, the research examines various dimensions including AI-enabled healthcare applications, technological tools, clinical and organizational impacts, use of generative AI, as well as regulatory, ethical, and liability concerns. Based on these findings, the study proposes strategic policy recommendations aimed at fostering a sustainable and trustworthy smart healthcare ecosystem in Taiwan.
