Challenges and Opportunities Posed by Artificial Intelligence for Pediatrics

Abstract
The author reviews the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and how it has impacted patient care, including pediatric patient care. While there have been positive developments, such as better diagnostic options, unknown risks remain, such as data breaches, privacy and confidentiality concerns and poor modeling. AI will likely impact informed consent and the author considers both the positive and negative ramifications of allowing AI to play a larger role in this process. She concludes with recommendations for incorporating AI into pediatric healthcare with the goal of protecting vulnerable children.
