Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technologies has significantly transformed the healthcare sector, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerging as a key driver of innovation in hospital management. This study, titled “The Future of Smart Hospitals: The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Hospital Management,” examines how AI contributes to improving efficiency, optimizing resource utilization, and enhancing patient care within modern healthcare systems. The primary objective of the study is to analyze the role of Artificial Intelligence in hospital management and its contribution to the development of smart hospitals. The research also aims to understand the concept of smart hospitals, identify key applications of AI in healthcare administration, examine the benefits and challenges of implementation, and provide practical recommendations for effective adoption. The study is based on a descriptive research design and relies on secondary data collected from academic journals, healthcare reports, books, and credible online sources. It explores various applications of AI in hospital management, including patient scheduling, bed management, workforce planning, predictive analytics, electronic health records, revenue cycle management, and supply chain optimization. The study further explains the smart hospital framework, which integrates infrastructure, data, intelligence, and application layers to enable efficient and technology-driven healthcare delivery. The findings indicate that AI significantly enhances operational efficiency, reduces costs, improves decision-making, and provides better patient experiences. However, challenges such as high implementation costs, data security concerns, lack of skilled professionals, and resistance to technological change continue to hinder widespread adoption, particularly in developing countries like India. The study concludes that Artificial Intelligence has the potential to revolutionize hospital management by making healthcare systems more efficient, cost-effective, and patient-centered. It emphasizes the need for a strategic approach involving phased implementation, investment in infrastructure, staff training, and strong cybersecurity measures. The research highlights that smart hospitals represent the future of healthcare, offering improved service delivery and better health outcomes.
