Abstract
The study examines artificial intelligence applications in sports science across the Global South, highlighting significant disparities in technology access and implementation compared to high-income countries. In this study, we analyzed 187 publications from multiple databases to identify policy-practice gaps, ethical challenges, and sustainable integration pathways. Findings reveal substantial technological divides, with less than 8% of sports analytics investments occurring in developing countries and only 12.3% of AI-focused sports science research originating from the Global South. The study emphasizes the need for integrated national sports technology strategies, regional cooperation networks, reformed coach education frameworks, contextually appropriate ethical guidelines, and innovation incentive programs to address these disparities. The novelty of this study lies in its comprehensive examination of AI applications in sports science specifically within the Global South, a largely underexplored context.
